Hauger was born in Bærum, where he has lived his whole life. His first first team appearance for Stabæk came in 2003. The shirt number 7 was a retired number until Hauger was drafted into the first team.
Hauger joined the Norwegian national team in January 2006, when they played friendly matches against Mexico and the United States.
Henning once said that FC Lyn Oslo would be the last club he would ever play for. Lyn was, before they went bankrupt, a rival of Stabæk both in the league and by geographical location.
